The following write up might seem very radical and extreme to some so called Muslims. I can not help but hurt their feelings if they think it is too radical and extreme.

Well, this is all about Jihad and conflicts that Muslims fight in. There seem to be groups of people, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, who are always troubled whenever the word "jihad" is mentioned.

There are pussycat-peaceniks among Muslims who talk about "peace" like their anti-Muslim oriental and occidental thought-mates, even if Muslims continue to get killed and injustice perpetrated against them. They will always talk about maintaining "peace" without addressing the causes of war and violence. They would like the oppressed ones to keep peace while their tormentors are left alone to commit crimes relentlessly against them. Every time the oppressed stands up for justice he is told to keep peace. So he will be kicked out of his house, his houses will be demolished, his brothers/sisters/parents/children will be killed and he has to keep "peace."

I do not mind hearing that peace(!) message from the oppressors of Muslims, but I definitely get "pissed off" when I see the Muslim pussycat-peaceniks join the chorus for peace. They want to show the world that Islam is a religion of peace, which it of course is, that does not condone any violence. To them jihad is a defensive act of struggle which does not really involve violence (armed struggle). They are ashamed of the very existence of "Jihad" in Islam. So they become apologetic. Islam does not need any apologist defending it. It is the religion of Allah, which requires its followers to continuously get involved in Jihad until the Words of Allah become supreme. May Allah have mercy on al-Ustadh Sayyid Abul-'Ala al-Mawdudi for his definitive role of standing up for jihad and its virtues when jihad was attacked by enemies of Islam as a senseless fanatic war after Swami Shraddhananda of "Arya Samaj" was killed by a Muslim after the Samaj's campaign to reconvert (Shuddhi [literally cleansing] Andolan) Indian Muslims into Hinduism. He wrote his famous voluminous work "al-Jihad fi al-Islam" which clarified jihad and its role from an unapologetic view and it also stands out as a masterpiece of international law on war and peace.

Throughout our history the peacenik pussycats always tried to advocate peaceful "rational" solutions in conflicts with our enemies. The Ummah continued to lose because of listening to them.

When in 1492 Catholic armies of Isabella and Ferdinand were knocking at the doors of Granada, the peacenik-pussycats from among the umara (leaders) of Granada advised Abu Abdullah, the Ameer, to "peacefully" surrender and trust Isabella and Ferdinand's promise of a safe passage for Moors. Only the young commander of Granada's army Musa bin Abi Ghassan proposed to fight till the honorable death. But he was ignored and Musa fought alone till he died. The rest about the Muslims of Andalusia (Southern Spain) is history of tears, death, forced conversion and expulsion that you all know.

In later day Spain when the Moriscos were persecuted and tortured for their hidden Islamic Belief, Badr bin Mughira took up arms and fought from the jungles of Sierra Nevada much to the opposition of peacenik pussycats, which helped create opportunities for many Moriscos to flee safely to North Africa.

There are hundreds of episodes of our history in later days where we have only had to shed tears and innocent bloods and witness the violation of our honor just because of the peaceniks believed in "peace" and cowardly prohibited the Ummah from standing up and fight for its honor and dignity and to remove the obstacles of vested interests that causes the slaves of Allah to be enslaved to their desires.

But what was Islam's jihad? I, here, am not defining jihad from so many intellectual "rational" points of views. It is the jihad that brings "peace and security" for the believers. Jihad is to free human beings from the bondage of other humans to take them to the slavery of the Master and Lord of mankind, as Rabi' ibn 'Amr (May Allah be Pleased with him) said to Rustam, the commander of the Persian Army, before the Battle of Qadesia when Rustam asked the purpose of Arabs attacking the Sasanid Empire, "We have been sent by Allah to deliver whom He pleases from the overlordship of His slaves (i.e. men) to His own overlordship, from the narrow confines of this world to the boundless extent of the next life and from the oppressions of all isms and religions (adyaan) to the justice and fairness of Islam." This what is the purpose of our jihad; to liberate humanity from the bondage of other humans, from thousands of isms and ways of life to the ultimate justice and fairness of Islam, to create peace between men and their Lord by making them surrender to the Will of their Lord, the Creator and Sustainer of the worlds.

Our enemies today do not hesitate to perpetrate preemptive strikes against Muslim nations in order to force upon us their so called "New World Order" of democracy(?) by which they have been able to spread fitnah (tumult, oppression, disorder, chaos, etc.) in our lands. Yet the peaceniks talk about peace (they actually mean submitting to our oppressors) instead of fighting them whereas Allah has ordered us to fight them till Peace is achieved on His terms:

"And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah; but if they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practise oppression." (2:193)

"And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah altogether and everywhere; but if they cease, verily Allah does see all that they do." (8:39)

It is Allah who has ordered us to prepare against our enemies. He said (translation of the meaning of His Glorious Words), "

"Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom you may not know, but whom Allah does know. Whatever you shall spend in the cause of Allah, shall be repaid unto you, and you shall not be treated unjustly." 8:60

Yet the demagogues that rule Muslim nations do not prepare to defend our nations. They become accomplices to our oppressors in killing Muslim youth and suppressing the legitimate rights of Muslim Masses. (May Allah guide them and open up their hearts to submission to His Will).

Some of us are too comfortable in our present jobs and styles of life. So we turn to become peaceniks in order to save our worldly comforts. But remember these are matters of this world which will come to an end very soon and you will taste a severe punishment.

"Say: If it be that your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your mates, or your kindred; the wealth that you have gained; the commerce in which you fear a decline: or the dwellings in which you delight - are dearer to you than Allah, or His Messenger, or the jihad in His cause;- then wait until Allah brings about His decision: and Allah guides not the rebellious." 9:24

"O you who believe! what is the matter with you, that, when ye are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, you cling heavily to the earth? Do you prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the Hereafter." 9:38

Thawban ibn Awf (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Allah's Messenger (May blessings of Allah and peace be upon him) said to him, "O Thawban how will you be when the nations [of the world] will summon each other upon you as you call guests to eat from a plate of food?", Thawban said , "May my parents be sacrificed for you. Will we be few in number on that day, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "No, rather you will be many on that day, but you will be like the foam on the ocean. And Allah will remove the fear of you from the hearts of your enemies and place in your hearts al-wahn". They said, "What is al-wahn O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "love of this world and hatred of death."' [Reported by Abu Dawud and Ahmad and in Ahmad's narration the word Qital (fighting) is mentioned instead of mawt (death).]

It is the love of this world and its comforts which they have achieved that prevented the Muslim Pussycat-peaceniks to stand out firmly for justice, instead they have taken up the cheap slogan of "peace" and condemned legitimate Jihad by Muslims, which is a great act of worship. Allah and His Messenger enjoined jihad on the believers so much that many of the scholars of consider it to be the "sixth" pillar of Islam. Allah's Messenger (May the blessings of Allah and peace be upon him) is reported to have said, "The one who died but neither took part in a military expedition nor had a desire to do so has died in a state of nifaq (hypocrisy)." [Muslim and other reporters of hadith]

May Allah save us from such hypocrisy. Jihad is an enjoined duty whether the peaceniks like it or not. No body likes fighting, yet Allah prescribed it for us because He knows that this is the way for the Peace and Security for the believers. "Jihad is ordained for you (Muslims) though you dislike it, and it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know.'' (2:216)

And it is those who continue to fight in the path of Allah are the successful ones. No military defeat can wear them out; their spirit of faith continues to illuminate the world even if they are physically annihilated, as our Merciful Lord praises them in His book in the following words (meanings of His words):

"How many of the prophets fought (in Allah's way), and with them (fought) large bands of ribbiyun [godly men]? but they never lost heart if they met with disaster in Allah's way, nor did they weaken (in will) nor give in. And Allah Loves those who are firm and steadfast." 3:146

And those who fight are higher in status to Allah than those who do not. As He said:

"Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home), except those who are disabled (by injury or are blind or lame), and those who strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred in grades those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and their lives above those who sit (at home). Unto each, Allah has promised good (Jannah), but Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight, above those who sit (at home) by a huge reward. Degrees of (higher) grades from Him, and forgiveness and mercy. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.'' (4:95, 96)

May Allah accept us from among His chosen slaves. ameen!

Some people do not like quoting Qur'anic ayat while discussing the present day conflicts where Muslim groups (like Hamas & Hizbullah) fight our enemies because some peaceniks from among the Muslims do not consider their struggles as Jihad. May Allah save us from these peaceniks. If situation warrants they will join our enemies in the massacre of our brethren just in order to save their "peaceful and comfortable" life. About them Allah said:

Behold! A party among them said: "Ye men of Yathrib! ye cannot stand (the attack)! therefore go back!" And a band of them ask for leave of the Prophet, saying, "Truly our houses are bare and exposed," though they were not exposed, they intended nothing but to run away. And if an entry had been effected to them [by the enemies] from the sides of the (city), and they had been incited to fitnah, they would certainly have brought it to pass, with none but a brief delay! (33:13-14)

We certainly would continue to quote the Qur'an in any of our arguments because the Qur'an is our ultimate source of guiding knowledge. Our frame of reference is not the same as our adversaries. I do not know how to argue "rationally" without using the Qur'an.

I, however, must caution everybody that fitnah is not jihad. Jihad is to eradicate fitnah. There are many fitnabaz [trouble maker/chaos creator] who create fitnah in Muslim nations. They start killing innocent people for no apparent reason and wage terrorist  actions on Muslim and non-Muslim countries. This is not jihad. This is rather a disservice to Islam. At the same time those who try to vilify, as terrorism, the legitimate jihad of the resistance movements in Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon and many other occupied Muslim lands are greater culprits, regardless of them being non-Muslims or Muslim peaceniks, because they are trying to undermine one of the greatest acts of worship and hence creating an environment in which Muslim youth will grow up disliking Jihad and the enemies will get an upper hand over Muslims.

It is our duty to teach our children about the superiority of jihad as an act of worship. It is our duty to create bravery in them not cowardice. They should in no way be made to feel ashamed about jihad.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Allah guarantees that he who goes out to fight in His way believing in Him and affirming the truth of His Messenger, will either be admitted to Jannah or will be brought back to his home (safely) from where he has set out, with whatever reward or share of booty he may have gained. By Him in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, if a person is wounded in the way of Allah, he will come on the Day of Resurrection with his wound in the same condition as it was on the day when he received it; its colour will be the colour of blood but its smell will be the smell of musk. By Him in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, if it were not to be too hard upon the Muslims, I would not lag behind any expedition to fight in the Cause of Allah, but I have neither abundant means to provide them conveyance (horses) nor all other Muslims have it, and it will be hard on them to remain behind when I go forth (for Jihad). By Him in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, I love to fight in the way of Allah and get killed, to fight again and get killed and to fight again and get killed.''[Reported by Muslim, Quoted in Riyadus-Salihin, Hadith # 1294].

It is an obligation on us to teach our children to be aware of the miserable conditions of this Ummah and encourage them to do acts that will help alleviate such misery. It is an obligation on us to help create the sense of honor and dignity as Muslims in ourselves and in our children. It is our duty also that we help them understand the fine distinction between fighting in the path of Allah and acts of terrorism and subversion. We should create in ourselves and in our children the love for Allah and His Messenger and Jihad so much that they will not be afraid of any reproaches by those who made it a habit of finding fault in everything Islamic and blame any sincere act of daw'ah and jihad as extremism and terrorism. Allah (SWT) talked about such people in the following words:

O you who believe! Whoso of you becomes a renegade from his religion, (know that in his stead) Allah will bring a people whom He loves and who love Him, humble toward believers, stern toward disbelievers, doing jihad in the way of Allah, and fearing not the blame of any blamer. Such is the grace of Allah which He gives unto whom He will. Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing. 5:54

And Allah knows the best.
