MILESTONE 13: DO NOT RULE OUT PUNISHMENT

When a mind is still tender and roams in the world of physics, and not yet Metaphysics, then physical punishment is a must. Let me explain more. A child's mind might not be able all the time to know the hidden harm of a lucrative physical harmful object, or behavior, or might not be able to comprehend the hidden benefits of an apparent laborious, and boring action. Let me give the example of performing the five obligatory prayers. No doubt that prayers are the emotional link between Allah and His slaves. The physical actions of the prayer is a cover for the meta-physical emotional relation, which brings the slave closer to the Master. Of course, this meaning could be very difficult for the child to comprehend, when sometimes it is difficult for adults! For this reason, it is legitimate to punish the child for not performing the physical prayer, hoping that when the child gets habituated with the physical prayer, then when his mindset gets more mature, then he will get slowly in the meta-physical world.

That was just an example. In summary, I want to say that sometimes you need to be harsh in giving a bitter medicine to your child who might wonder 'Why mom is giving me this awful syrup?!', but you in your deep know that this bitter medicine is a pre-requisite for cure from ever more bitter disease! It goes without saying that the punishment should be balanced, and should be taken not as a default practice, but as the last resort. And when punishment is exercise, should be painful enough to teach the kid, not to break his bones!

Do not become weak (against your enemy), nor be sad, and you will be superior (in victory) if you are indeed (true) believers. [Quran aal-Imran (3):139]
