letterFollowing is a letter sent by Ibn Taimiyyah who was staying at Egypt to his mother in Syria, explaining to her his excuse to be away from her. His engagement with great matters to teach and treat the Ummah at the time of hardship was his excuse to be away from home. In the Name of Allah the Most Gracious Most Merciful

From Ahmed ibn Taimiyyah to the Happy Mother, may Allah fill her eyes with His bounties and encompass her with His generosity, and make her among His chosen maids and slaves.

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh

We carry the praise of Allah to you who is the only true God, and He is worthy of all praise and He is over all things competent. And we ask Him to bless the last of Prophets and Leader of the fearful: Muhammad His slave and messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be on him.

My letter to you is about the enormous bounties and favors of Allah and which is been bestowed upon us, for which we thank Him and ask Him more. The favors of Allah are increasing by time, and they are so great to be counted.

As you know, we are staying in this country (Egypt) for very needed matter, which if we ignore, affairs of this world and the world hereafter will be affected. By Allah, we never preferring to stay away from you, and if birds can carry us over their wings, we would travel to you, but the excuse of the absentee is with him. If you were exposed to the inner matters, you –by Allah’s grace- would agree on my staying here. Indeed, we never decided to stay for even a month, but everyday we ask the preference from Allah (istikharah) to travel back, and do ask Allah for his decision, and I ask Allah to grant whatever is best for us and for Muslims.

Above all, Allah has opened doors of mercy and guidance which were unimaginable, and we are always prepared to travel and seeking preference from Allah. So, let not anybody think that we are prefering anything among the worldly matter over the pleasure of being close to you. Even among the matters of religion we never prefer anything which falls below the grade of being close to you. But they (the reason for not traveling to Syria) are really great issues which we fear that neglecting them would cause public harm to the ummah. Indeed, those present here see more than those absent. In fact, the Prophet –peace be upon him-said: “among the signs of happiness for the son of Adam to seek preference from Allah, and getting satisfied with what Allah granted him, and among the signs of sadness abandoning istikhara (seeking preference) from Allah and getting annoyed with what Allah distributed to him”. Often  merchant wants to travel but get afraid his property would get lost, so he stays for sometime to settle and secure his money, and what we face is beyond description. And no power and energy can be attained without the help of Allah.

Wassalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullah more and more to you and all those in the house, the seniors or juniors, and to the neighbors and friends one by one.

And all praise to Allah and His blessings on Prophet Muhmmad.
