I think when taking the long journey of mankind on this earth, it would reveal that an integral part of this journey was to submit to a powerful deity, as if mankind consciously or subconsciously confesses it’s weakness and it’s need for some powerful being for shelter, support and guidance. Without attachment to such support, man becomes exposed. Exposed to the danger that would come from fellow human beings who like him claim liberation from guidance of a deity.I think the theory of action-reaction worked very effectively in barring proper reasoning and understanding between opposing parties. In the context of European history, the rigid control of Church over scientific experiments, resulted in a reactive movement from scientific community, and resulted in quick decisions to finger point theism as an enemy. Probably the golden age of this reactive movement started with Darwin’s explanation of a natural model that would explain the world without God. Had Darwin been in a friendly environment with religion, he –and his bulldogs- would have found easily a theistic explanation of evolution governed by God.
This did not happen, and science continued to progress with this enmity in mind, which resulted in adding atheism flavor whether appropriate or not. Science can not proceed much in it’s journey taking mankind in one hand and raising the flag of atheism in the other. Science can not fulfill the inherent thirst of man’s soul for spirituality and submission to a powerful God. The journey has started and problems are evident from the first mile. Under the umbrella of atheism, man has no purpose in life other than maximizing profit and satisfying worldly lusts and desires in the expense of other. The tiny fraction of morality which atheist’s enjoy are totally taken from theism on rental basis. The peace of mind which a theist poor farmer of my country (Bangladesh) far exceeds the stress and meaningless vacuum life which a Hollywood start might feel amidst all worldly provisions that modern science has gifted to mankind. No matter how much physical enjoyment science –and atheism- grants to mankind, it can not come closer to the metaphysical spiritual enjoyment which religion and theism provides and has been providing to mankind since it’s journey on earth. Marx and Engle might have attempted to create an atheist Utopia, but has collapsed like a house of card. Apart from the communist attempt, there is no atheist state in modern history. Secular states can not remove the default theistic practice of their community, and hence I would claim that the majority of the population on this globe are theistic, and only a very small fraction of academicians and intellectuals are atheists who are using theist’s utilities day and night.
The religious fundamentalism is again a reaction to atheist’s fundamentalism. One extremism results in another. Also, fundamentalism is very evident between different religions and sects of the same religion. If we are in the context of discussing the existence of God, then religious fundamentalism comes to prove his existence rather than disprove that. It proves that religion was so strong a force that causes people to be dedicated to it and struggle for it. It also proves that many groups and religions can be based on the same God, and hence the three main monotheistic religions. I think given the huge number of religious population on earth, then conflicts among religious bodies is a natural dynamics of a huge community. A house full of a big family will observe much more noise and conflicts than a small family of husband wife and one kid.

Do not become weak (against your enemy), nor be sad, and you will be superior (in victory) if you are indeed (true) believers. [Quran aal-Imran (3):139]
