hikmahAllah created Adam in the best image, and armed him with tools to learn, work, worship and work towards development on this earth. I will cite here three verses from Quran, and I will leave you to make the obvious connection between the creation of man and the importance of knowledge, education and learning…

Verse One [31,32 Surah al-Baqarah (2)]

[31] And He taught Adam all the names (of everything), then He showed them to the angels and said, "Tell Me the names of these if you are truthful." [32] They (angels) said: "Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Verily, it is You, the All-Knower, the All-Wise."

Verse Two [first four verses from Surah ar-Rahman 55]

[1] The Most Gracious (Allâh)! [2] Has taught (you mankind) the Qur'ân (by His Mercy). [3] He created man. [4] He taught him eloquent speech.

Verse Three [first five verses from Surah al-Alaq 96]

[1] Read! In the Name of your Lord Who has created (all that exists). [2] He has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). [3] Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous. [4] Who has taught (the writing) by the pen. [5] He has taught man that which he knew not.

So, first man was sent to earth well equipped with tools and knowledge to worship his God and cultivate this earth. Please, contract this with the social science and anthropological view that early human being was very primitive in terms of knowledge or civilization, and started to learn things through natural process of evolution till today.

That was the story of first man of Earth. How about the first status when a baby is born? Allah has mentioned the while slate status of infants when they land on earth saying

[78] And Allâh has brought you out from the wombs of your mothers while you know nothing. And He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts that you might give thanks (to Allâh).

I think this verse is very important is specifying the epistemological tools to acquire knowledge. Among these tools are physical tools that we human share with other animals (hearing and sigh) and one special gift which in unique to mankind (and jinn) which is the heart (reasoning, intellect). So, we take as input through eyes and ears lot’s of information, and these information is further analyzed by our mind and reason to produce knowledge. For example, people use these sensory organs to look into the wonderful design of heaven and earth and trees and birds and human and nature, and then they use their reason to ask “Who created it?” “Why he created it?” and come to know Allah.

Moreover, Allah’s grace to mankind does not stop at just giving these tools, but extend to sending Messengers and Books to remind the mankind of their duty towards Allah and to show them how to gain the pleasure of Allah and avoid His wrath, which are the core and essence of worship.

Allah the creator of reason has built-in into it the criteria to distinguish the right from wrong and to surrender to God. However, this fitrah (instinct) gets corrupted by the external factors like a healthy body gets corrupted and tastes sweet sour.

Hence, only those who align their fitrah with Quran and Sunnah see the right and wrong, and they are the one who has Hikmah.

Read the following verses and try to align them with my discussion above.

He grants Hikmah to whom He pleases, and he, to whom Hikmah is granted, is indeed granted abundant good. But none remember (will receive admonition) except men of understanding. [2:169]

Shall he then who knows that what has been revealed unto you (O Muhammad (peace be upon him)) from your Lord is the truth be like him who is blind? But it is only the men of understanding that pay heed. [13:19]

And those who have been given knowledge see that what is revealed to you (O Muhammad (peace be upon him)) from your Lord is the truth, and that it guides to the Path of the Exalted in Might, Owner of all praise. [34:6]

And that those who have been given knowledge may know that it (this Qur'ân) is the truth from your Lord, so that they may believe therein, and their hearts may submit to it with humility. And verily, Allâh is the Guide of those who believe, to the Straight Path. [22:54]

O you who believe! If you obey and fear Allâh, He will grant you Furqân ((a criterion to judge between right and wrong), or (Makhraj, i.e. a way for you to get out from every difficulty)) and will expiate for you your sins, and forgive you; and Allâh is the Owner of the Great Bounty. [8:29]

All the above verses point to the fact that those who got the Hikmah from Allah knows accurate answer to difficult question which other either do not know or know wrong answers.

Now, let us talk more about the opposite party, the party of Philosophy. Philosophy is the Greek western rival to the followers of Philo Hikmah. If Allah is the source of knowledge for PhiloHikmists, then Plato, Aristotle are their admirers are the source of knowledge for philosophers. Philsophers indulge their tall nose into very difficult question: Is there God? What happens after death? What are metaphysics? What is the nature of Mind (if that exists)?

PhiloHikmah and Philosophy deal with same questions, but gulf of difference when comes to Answers. All you will hear from philosophers are doubt and doubt, scepticism, speculations and probability. You will hear from PhiloHikmists accurate answers because they got it straight from the sources.

I will be posting in this section from now and then, philosophical issues, where I will run a comparison between what philosophers present and what Quran and Hadith says –in the light of my limited knowledge.
